Some of Today’s Questionable Right-Wing Statements and Decisions

Below are some of today’s questionable right-wing statements and decisions:

• Alaska Senate candidate Joe Miller (R-AK) told ABC News that he believes the federal minimum wage is unconstitutional, in addition to Social Security, unemployment benefits, and Medicare. Apparently though, Miller’s wife once received unemployment benefits after she left a job working for Miller.
• Delaware Senate candidate Christine O’Donnell (R-DE) released an ad in which she proclaimed that she is not a witch.
• Kentucky Senate candidate Rand Paul (R-KY) declared that Medicaid has turned into “intergenerational welfare.”
• A new Siena poll has found that 61% of respondents agree that New York gubernatorial candidate “Carl Paladino is a loose cannon, who doesn’t have the temperament to be governor.”
• Ohio State Treasurer candidate Josh Mandel (R-OH) was slammed by The Columbus Dispatch  for authorizing a factually incorrect ad. The Toledo Blade (which endorsed Mandel) went further and called on him to discontinue the ad because of its “fear-mongering” innuendo about his opponent’s Muslim staff members.
• Washoe County District Attorney candidate Roger Whomes (D-NV) filed an ethics complaint against incumbent District Attorney Dick Gammick (R-NV). The Reno Gazette Journal reported that Gammick’s alleged ethics violation occurred at an event hosted by the Republican Jewish Coalition.
• Politico reported that a large number of prominent Republican candidates have been avoiding the media.
• Think Progress reported that the Republican-leaning Chamber of Commerce has been raising money from foreign sources in order to fund its advertisements against Democrats.
• Joe the Plumber and certain Tea Party-affiliated groups have mobilized against Humane Society-sponsored legislation that would restrict puppy mills in Missouri. A spokesperson for the Alliance for Truth, which is a major force against the bill, told TPM that the Humane Society of the United States ”[doesn’t] like animals.”
• Wendy Wright, President of Concerned Women for America, published a lengthy op-ed that claims health care reform violates the Ten Commandments.
• Glenn Beck compared Zeke Emanuel and Obama Administration advisors John Holdren and Cass Sunstein to the Nazis.
