RJC Ads Spur Outrage From Locals

The Cleveland Jewish News received a strong response after they ran ads by the Republican Jewish Coalition (RJC). The letters speak for themselves. Here are some excerpts:

Howard Bochnek from Pepper Pike wrote a letter titled, "RJC ads pervert truth, so check Internet," where he asks people to check the facts of the RJC ads.

If we have learned one thing from 60 years of Holocaust education, it is that perversion of the truth, no matter how many times repeated, cannot be permitted to replace facts, critical thinking about the world around us, or the lessons of Torah.

Steven E. Sender from Beachwood wrote a letter titled "Reject RJC’s scare tactics on Israel," reminds people of the bipartisan support for Israel and asks for a rejection of RJC's scare tactics.

The scare tactics by Republican Jews and the RJC ads are disgusting...The fact that you trust Sarah Palin with the security of Israel is absolutely astonishing. Israel is the only true democracy in its region. Our government is not going to let it down and will continue its commitment and strong support, no matter the party or person in office.

Linda Schneider from Pepper Pike wrote a letter titled, "Raise bar on political advertisements," where she asked for a raised level of ads that are not based on half-truths or untruths.

It is distasteful for me to open my local Jewish paper and see full-page ads that are based on half or untruths and that seek to motivate voters by fear. I don’t have to agree with the political content; just raise the quality level.

Our very own Ira Forman also wrote a letter to the Cleveland Jewish News titled, "Deceptive Republican ads in CJN," where Forman asks if they have any shame.

The previous week’s RJC ad disgracefully tried to tie Pat Buchanan to Obama. Yet they quote me the following week complimenting McCain in 1999 when McCain argued for throwing Buchanan out of the Republican Party. What they do not tell us is that in the same article in which I am quoted, the RJC backed then-Gov. George W. Bush’s position NOT to banish Buchanan.

Do these folks have any shame?
