During tonight’s CNN GOP Debate, Former Mass. Governor Mitt Romney made outright fabrications surrounding the Israel record of President Barack Obama. NJDC President & CEO David A. Harris issued this statement:
Governor Romney tonight showed again that he will lie if need be to advance his political agenda, and when it comes to the U.S.-Israel relationship, that’s shameful. The stakes are simply too high. We are not talking about subjective opinions, but facts. Governor Romney, for example, said that the President castigated Israel during his speech at the United Nations in September. He did no such thing. Mr. Romney said the President made no reference to the ‘thousands of rockets being rained in on Israel from the Gaza Strip;’ indeed, President Obama specifically cited how ‘Israel’s citizens have been killed by rockets fired at their houses and suicide bombs on their buses’ on the world stage of the United Nations in September.
Enough is enough. The outright lies, smears and distortions of President Obama’s stellar Israel record must stop.
Tonight Governor Romney said:
He [Obama] said nothing about thousands of rockets being rained in on Israel from the Gaza Strip.
President Obama said at the UN on September 21, 2011:
Let us be honest with ourselves: Israel is surrounded by neighbors that have waged repeated wars against it. Israel’s citizens have been killed by rockets fired at their houses and suicide bombs on their buses.
The New York Times fact checked Romney’s claims regarding Hamas’ rockets and pointed out how Romney’s statements contradict the facts. Their analysis is available here.
Politifact also ruled Romney’s claims “false.” Their analysis is available here.
Tonight Governor Romney said:
I think he disrespected Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu—Bibi Netanyahu.
Prime Minister Netanyahu said following the UN speech:
I think that standing your ground, taking this position of principle… I think this is a badge of honor and I want to thank you for wearing that badge of honor. [New York Daily News, September 22, 2011]
Governor Romney said tonight:
I think he has time and time again shown distance from Israel….

Any Jew with a conscience would never vote republican anyway, unless you are a greedy selfish thug, who is ONLY concerned with your greenbacks. Romney says anything to get elected-GO OBAMA in 2012
All my grandchildren live in Israel, and I will vote for their safety by voting FOR Obama.Romney and Gingrich don’t like Jewish voters money?!!!!!~
Would someone tell me what Romney—and the other republican scum—whould NOT lie about?? The silence is deafening.
It is likely that michiganruth has not been listening to Romney’s incessant straight-out distortions and to too much of the Limbaugh, Hannity, Beck and our Detroit’s own WJR morning radio’s diatribes. They could care less for Jews. All they desire is Israel as the gathering place so the Savior (our own Jewish boy) can return to save the few people who might still be alive when the end fo the world comes, as incessently predicted by the same idiots who will almost always vote for the Republican clown du jour. Obama has helped Israel develop the missile defense system and given it more military aid than Bush. Wake up ruth.
I would love to ask Gov. Romney the following question: “If you are such a great friend of Israel, how could you say that were Ron Paul your party’s nominee, you could easily support him? The same Ron Paul who has the most anti-Israel voting record in Congress, wants to cut all aid to the Jewish State and even disagrees with the killing of Osama bin Laden? ” Romney clearly is no friend of Israel.
How can Gov. Romney claim to be such a great friend of Israel while at the same time saying he could easily support Ron Paul for President? Ron Paul who has the worst record on Israel of any member of Congress; Ron Paul who wants to cut all aide to Israel; Ron Paul who even finds fault in the assassination of Osama bin Laden! And Romney says he could support a man like this? Doesn’t sound like any friend of Israel I’ve ever met . . .
In addition to the positives above, If not for Obama’s very positive response to a frantic middle-of-the-night call from PM Netanyahu, 6 Israeli diplomats would now be dead or captured.
Unlike most Republicand, Obama realizes that, while it will be difficult to obtain a comprehensive, suatainable resolution of the Israeli/Palestinian conflict is essential if Israel is to be able to have a chance to avoid renewed conflict, effectively respond to her domestic problems, and remain both a Jewish and a democratic country.
michiganruth: please read The facts speak for themselves. It occurs at the end of the piece to which you comment.
and didn’t he say he would support Ron Paul if he had to?
Here are the facts to educate your “friends” with.
you guys never give up, do you? it’s apparent to anyone with an IQ over 60 that Barack Obama cares nothing about Israel, but he can’t let those Jewish donations to his war chest go.
if he’s reelected, and doesn’t need our votes or our money anymore, you will see how “friendly” he really is. of course it’ll be too late then, and Iran will have blown up Tel Aviv, and the libs will all be saying “oh gosh, we didn’t think they MEANT it.”
