Conservative commentator Michael Savage compared President Barack Obama to Hitler and liberals to Nazis on his radio show Tuesday. Savage was deeply critical of how Congress and the White House are handling the Rolling Stone article about General Stanley McChrystal, saying:
The phony liberals who said that during Hitler’s period, “If only the generals had stood up to Hitler and said something, the Holocaust could have been prevented” and now we have a general standing up and saying the most mild of things about this thin-skinned, community organizing, Marxist, backstabbing anti-American, and all of a sudden, he’s fired and they say “Good for Obama.”
We can be reasonably confident that Savage’s interest in preserving McChrystal’s job has nothing to do with his concern for the welfare of the Afghan citizens who would be affected by a change in U.S. military personnel. In the past, Savage said that it would be okay to drop nuclear bombs on Afghanistan and Iraq because “they celebrate death,” and that the U.S. should “give ‘em what they ask for.”
This is most likely another case of conservatives taking cheap shots against Obama, instead of proposing rational solutions. Further, this is another sad example of conservative commentators abusing the Holocaust to fuel their ratings.
