Stop the GOP’s Assault on Health Care Reform

Let the political games begin.

We’re only a few days into the New Year and the new Congress, and the Republican-led House of Representatives is playing political games - announcing that they will vote to repeal critical health care reform legislation.

The Affordable Care Act (ACA), which was passed by the 111th Congress and signed into law by President Barack Obama last March, has benefited millions of Americans across the country. Republicans have not only turned a blind eye to the American public, they’re ignoring warnings from the non-partisan Congressional Budget Office (CBO).  The CBO predicts that repealing health care reform will add $230 billion to the deficit, yet House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) and House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-VA) appear undeterred.

Last year, NJDC - like so many others - worked tirelessly to make health care reform a reality. Nearly a year later, ACA is paying huge dividends for American families.  Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius wrote about ACA’s positive effects in the Chicago Tribune:

The law is giving Americans more freedom in their health care choices. It’s freeing families from the worry that they’ll lose their benefits when insurers unfairly cancel or cap their coverage. It’s freeing children with disabilities and pregnant women from being discriminated against by insurers because of their health status. It’s freeing seniors to get the care they need, whether it’s a prescription medication or a preventive screening like a mammogram. It frees all of us to look for a new job or start our own business without worrying about losing health coverage.

You can help stop the Republican Party’s attack on these benefits and all that we worked for by:

* Telling Boehner to serve all Americans instead of the certain corporate and extremist right-wing organizations that want to destroy health care reform;

* Calling Cantor - the only Jewish Republican in the House - and explaining to him why your Jewish values inspire you to support the health care reform package; and

* Contributing to NJDC so that we can continue to protect health care reform by powerfully asserting Jewish values into the debate.

With your help, we can stop the Republican Party from depriving access to affordable, quality health insurance to millions of Americans.
