U.S. Funding for Israeli Missile Defense Programs Reaches New High

The Jerusalem Post reported that under President Barack Obama’s leadership, and with the help of Congressional Democrats and other members of Congress, funding for Israeli missile defense programs is set to reach its highest level ever.

Last week members of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Defense “added $95.7m. to the original White House funding request for the long-range Arrow programs and medium-range David’s Sling.”

Of the additional funding, Representative Steve Rothman (D-NJ) said:

Chairman [Norm] Dicks, myself and all the members of the Defense Subcommittee understand how important it is to be at the cutting edge of anti-missile technology, both to safeguard our own citizens and troops, but also those citizens and troops of our allies and friends such as the people of the Jewish state of Israel.

The funding will need to be approved by the entire House of Representatives in the fall and also voted on by the Senate in its own version of the defense appropriations bill.
