“A Consistent Jewish Vote for 60 Years”

David Streeter — January 23, 2012 – 6:38 pm | Democrats | Election 2012 | Election 2008 | Polls Comments (1) Add a comment

Kenneth D. Wald, Distinguished Professor of Political Science at the University of Florida, explained why most American Jews consistently support Democrats in this month’s edition of Sh’ma. Wald wrote:

Every group has changed but one. In 1948, in a close presidential election won by Harry S. Truman, the Democratic nominee, Jews gave around 90 percent of their vote to Truman. In the close election of 2008, also won by the Democrats, Barack Obama received around 80 percent of the votes cast by self-identified Jews. Given the extraordinary political changes over the intervening 60 years, the stability of Jewish political loyalties - both in absolute and comparative terms - is stunning.

... [R]ecurring claims about an imminent realignment of the American Jewish vote are unlikely to be realized in the near future.

This entry is irrelevant.  The Jewish alignment with democrats may not have changed in 60 years, but the Democratic party certainly has.

While Democrats love to suggest that it is the GOP who has moved radically rightward, the opposite is in fact true and easily evidenced.

Fact 1:  In 2008, who was the GOP candidate for president?  One of the most moderate Republicans on record, someone who voted against his party on numerous issues, and helped broker several major bi-partisan pieces of legislation.

By contrast, the left put up as their candidate Barack Obama, who ranked as the most liberal member of the Senate at the time, who had cavorted with the likes of Jerimiah Wright, Bill Ayers and other extreme leftists.

Throughout Bush’s presidency, virtually no ring wing causes were championed.  Following eight years of Bush, Abortion was still fully legal, and in some cases funded federally, and a myriad of social programs still existed, with few ever seeing a cut in their budget.  While dems might not have favored Bush’s wars, they could hardly argue that Bush lead as a Christian conservative.  That’s because he too was fairly moderate.  Obama by contrast has passed a wish list of liberal wants, without regard to moderacy or bi-partisanship

Even in 2012, both front runners are fairly moderate, with Romney serving as Governor of a reliably blue state, and Gingrich having served as Clinton’s speaker of the house, famous for his bi-partisan deals with President Clinton during the 90s (deals which helped seal Clinton’s legacy as a successful president).

While the GOP moves to a moderate stance, liberals move ever leftward.  OWS clearly sends a message that moves us toward communism, and is in fact supported by the communist part of the USA.  The excommunication of Senator Joe Liberman, a moderate Dem and Jew, for merely being open to a strong national defense.  All show that the Democrats of today have moved leftward and are not tolerant of dissent.

The simple fact is that if John F Kennedy were running in today’s Washington D.C., he’s be a Republican.  Lower taxes, strong national defense, which Kennedy believed in are all GOP ideals.  It’s not the GOP that has moved to the right, it’s the liberals that have taken over the Democrat party, and moved it to the extreme left.  American Jews would be wise to consider the facts above, and vote accordingly.  Leftist policies, which are now the mainstay of the modern Democrats, have never, throughout history, been good for Jews.
