Outrage Over RJC Ads Continue to Bring Outrage from Locals

In response to the ads by the Republican Jewish Coalition (RJC) locals continue to be outraged. You might remember my post last week about the many letters to the editor that The Cleveland Jewish News received after running RJC ads. Just this week, there were two strongly worded letters to the Washington Jewish Week of Washington, DC. We have to remember that for every letter that is published there are probably a good number more that didn't make it to print. Also, I hear that there are more letters throughout the country. Please feel free to let me know when you see them or if you write one yourself.

This week Marcia F. Goldberg wrote a letter titled, "GOP ads hit a new low," where she wrote that "The Republican Jewish Coalition has hit a new low in its advertising. The ad that appears in the Sept. 25 issue of Washington Jewish Week implies that Sen. Hillary Clinton (D-N.Y.), Sen. Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.), Sen. John Kerry (D-Mass.) and Ira Forman, executive director of the National Jewish Democratic Council, all support John McCain in his current run for president." Goldberg ended her letter with an important point when she said, "The last I have heard, none of these individuals supports his candidacy."

In the same issue of Washington Jewish Week Toby Milgrom Levin wrote a letter titled, "Flat-out lies." Levin's letter is below printed in full.

I have not previously written to Washington Jewish Week, but the Republican Jewish Coalition ads you have published have become increasingly vicious and misrepresent the policies of the Obama-Biden campaign. Their headlines are flat-out lies. It is shocking that their drafters think that Jews can be persuaded by such vile statements.

The Democratic Party's long-standing support of Israel will not waiver under an Obama-Biden administration, a promise that Senator Biden restated during the VP debate. Knowing that is true, the RJC has resorted to lies to make its arguments.

Shame on WJW for printing such false ads. I know campaigns are given wide latitude in their advertising to state their case, but the RJC ads are the worst I have ever seen. I hope your readers have been repelled rather than persuaded by them.

I am particularly saddened that a Jewish organization has resorted to such tactics.
