Right Wing Writers Use Flawed Poll Data to Push Jewish Vote Myths

NJDC — September 11, 2012 – 1:23 pm | Polls Comments (0) Add a comment

Certain right wing writers have written on a new poll released by TIPP that allegedly shows a decline in support for President Barack Obama among Jewish voters. TIPP found a breakdown of 59% Obama/ 35% Romney/ 6% Undecided among Jewish voters. However, per a conversation held with a representative of the polling firm, the poll’s sample included only 22 Jews—giving it a margin of error of +/-22, according to a public opinion researcher contacted by the NJDC. Therefore, this survey is an unreliable measure of Jewish opinion towards the President given the mammoth margin of error involved.

A more reliable source for Jewish approval of the President is the most recent Gallup poll, which found 68% Obama/ 25% Romney/ 7% Undecided among Jews—which becomes Obama over Romney 73/27 when undecided respondents are removed. The Gallup data puts Obama near the 74% of the Jewish vote he received in 2008, according to the recent report issued by the nonpartisan Solomon Project.
